TruMaN Track at EGOS 2025 – Athens

We are happy to announce that Paula Ungureanu (Unimore) and Elisa Villani (Unibo) will organize, together with Professor Nelson Philips (University of California at Santa Barbara), a research track at the 41st European Group of Organization Studies (EGOS) Colloquium in Athens, to be held on July 3–5, 2025.
EGOS is Europe’s leading scientific conference for management and organization scholars, aiming to advance both theoretical and empirical knowledge about organizations and the contexts in which they operate.
Our Sub-theme 33, “Technologies of Transformation: Studying Emergent Digital Technologies as Ongoing Organizational and Institutional Experiments”, will serve as a forum for discussing how technologies such as AI, blockchain, data analytics, robotics, and VR are reshaping society through new organizational forms.
The sub-theme will be an opportunity to present the TruMaN Project to the EGOS community and engage with scholars exploring organizational and institutional change driven by emerging technologies.
TruMaN at SASE Conference – Limerick, Ireland

Paula Ungureanu (Unimore) brought the TruMaN project to the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE) conference held from June 27 to 29 at the University of Limerick.
Paula presented two studies related to our ongoing investigation of trust dynamics in blockchain ecosystems.
We thank Alexandru Preda from Lingnan University, Hong Kong, for organizing a thought-provoking panel on Data and Models, where we contributed insights on the organization of expertise in blockchain ecosystems.
We're also grateful to SASE’s Network A for hosting Paula’s talk on blockchain for good and institutional transformation and including us in their vibrant discussions on community democracy and organization.
Looking forward to the next milestone for TruMaN!
TruMaN at EGOS 2024 – Milan

We are happy to announce another milestone for the TruMaN project: a presentation by Paula Ungureanu (Unimore) of our conceptual work on distributed trust in blockchains at the 2024 EGOS Colloquium in Milan.
Our sincere thanks go to the sub-theme conveners Evelyn Micelotta, Stefan Haefliger, and Georg Reischauer, as well as to all participants of Sub-theme 56 – Organizing for and against Digital Platforms for the lively debate and generous feedback. Your contributions will be invaluable in refining our project design and activities.
We now look ahead to the 2025 EGOS Colloquium in Athens, where Paula and Elisa will co-convene the Sub-theme on Emerging Technologies as Institutional Experiments and Change together with Nelson Phillips.
TruMaN at EthMilan 2024

Paula Ungureanu (Unimore) was invited to give a talk at EthMilan 2024, one of Italy’s largest events dedicated to crypto and Web3, to present the TruMaN project and discuss the role of trust in organizing blockchain ecosystems.
Hosted in the vibrant setting of Teatro Parenti, the event spanned two days packed with workshops, talks, panels, hackathons, keynotes, and even artistic experiences — a unique convergence of tech enthusiasts and thought leaders exploring the future of blockchain.
Presenting in the Italian Track Sperimenta gave us the opportunity to engage with the Italian blockchain community, share our project goals and preliminary findings, and better understand the local innovation landscape.
It was inspiring to witness a growing Ethereum community in Italy. We are excited to continue applying and sharing the results of the TruMaN project with both national and international audiences.
TruMaN at AiIG 2024 – Palermo

Paula Ungureanu and Carlotta Cochis (Unimore) presented their research "Making Sense of Blockchain: Exploring Institutional Logics in Emerging Technologies" at the 2024 XXXV Conference of the Italian Association of Management Engineering (AiIG), held in Palermo from October 10 to 11.
The study explores how ventures in blockchain technology contribute to institutional transformation and change. It was a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives and engage with fellow researchers during the dedicated track on “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Technologies as Catalysts for Shaping Innovation Ecosystems.”
Webinar chaired on the subject of unauthorised electronic payments

With communication dated 17 June 2024, the Bank of Italy called the attention of operators to respect the rules and procedures aimed at guaranteeing customers' right to deny unauthorized payment transactions and obtain the related reimbursement. The communication identifies specific supervisory expectations.
Giuliano Lemme chaired the webinar “Operazioni di pagamento non autorizzate: nuove prospettive di vigilanza”, organized by Rivista di Diritto Bancario, on the subject of unauthorised electronic payments.
The webinar analyzed the Bank of Italy's communication, focusing on the analysis and concrete implementation of the supervisory expectations indicated therein. Furthermore, an overview of the most relevant ABF guidance relating to unauthorized payment transactions was provided.
Conference Attendance: Regulating Technological Driven Finance

Giuliano Lemme has been invited to speak on the highly timely and relevant topic of the relationship between Central Banks and cryptocurrencies.

On May 30–31, 2025, the Law School of the University of Rome La Sapienza will host the conference “Regulating Technological Driven Finance: Activities, Subjects and Supervision in the Digital Era”, held under the patronage of the Association of Lecturers in Economic Law (ADDE).
Giuliano Lemme has been invited to speak on the pressing topic of the evolving relationship between Central Banks and cryptocurrencies, contributing legal and academic insight to one of the most relevant debates in digital finance.
TruMaN at KIN Research Center – Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

Paula Ungureanu was invited to the KIN Research Center at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam to present TruMaN’s research on the societal impact of blockchain ecosystems.
She delivered a lecture titled “Futuring Blockchain for Good: Institutional Work and Prospective Technological Affordances for Societal Change” and introduced the TruMaN project to the center’s faculty.
The visit sparked inspiring conversations, new research connections, and opened the door to potential future collaborations.

Best Paper & Symposium at AOM 2025 – Copenhagen

We are thrilled to announce that our paper “From Crypto to Societal Change: Sensemaking, Institutional Boundaries and the Promise of Blockchain” by Paula Ungureanu and Carlotta Cochis has been accepted for presentation at the Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Meeting 2025 in Copenhagen, within the SIM Division.
Even more exciting, our work was selected as one of the Best Papers in the SIM program and will be published in the 2025 AOM Proceedings! 🌟
The paper investigates how media shape public understanding of blockchain for social good by leveraging and recombining institutional logics through practices of sensemaking, sensegiving, and sensebreaking. We propose a conceptual model linking media narratives, institutional dynamics, and the societal promise of emerging technologies.

EGOS 2026 Sub-theme Co-chaired by TruMaN’s PI

We are pleased to share that the sub-theme proposal “Reframing Inter-Organizational Relations in the World of the Fourth Industrial Revolution” has been accepted for the 42nd Annual Conference of the European Group of Organization Studies (EGOS), which will be held in Bergamo and online in the summer of 2026.
The track is titled “Reframing Inter-organizational Relations in the World of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. From Technological Partnerships to Digital Ecosystems” and will be co-chaired by Paula Ungureanu (TruMaN PI), Maria Carmela Annosi (Wageningen University and Research, Netherlands), and Wenqian Wang (Hong Kong Baptist University).
This sub-theme offers an exceptional opportunity to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on the role of inter-organizational collaboration in the digital age, highlighting both the strategic opportunities and societal contributions — as well as the emerging paradoxes — involved in adopting transformative technologies like blockchain and AI.
We’re excited for this occasion, where Paula will continue advancing scholarly debates around blockchain ecosystems and share TruMaN’s vision and results with the EGOS community.
